The Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust (NMoWIT) recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to discuss key matters affecting the iwi. The hui covered essential areas including a summary of the financial performance for 2023-2024, which highlighted both income and expenditure for the Trust and its Asset Holding Company (AHC). Updates were also provided on the AHC’s investment strategy and its ongoing support to whānau through fisheries quota allocations. The meeting included a significant discussion on the current state of Treaty Settlement negotiations, particularly regarding the Moriori proceedings, redress, and the establishment of a Post-Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE). A tribute was paid to Hariroa Daymond, a dedicated Treaty Settlement Negotiator for Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri. The AGM concluded with resolutions on key governance matters, future strategic directions, and continued engagement with iwi members to ensure a prosperous path forward.
